The Kickstarter-aided endeavor aims to record both an album and film in unique settings around the world.
Saiz already has a pair of collaboration-heavy albums to his name, both released on Natura Sonoris (along with singles and EPs for the likes of Bedrock, Last Night On Earth and Permanent Vacation). This one, supported by a Kickstarter fundraiser, is his most expansive effort to date. As he puts it, "The concept of this album is to materialize the essence of each place into a song. I've always been fascinated by how our environment can influence creative choice. I aim to explore how an artist can use everything around them as an inspiration to convert this energy into music."
The idea is to record ten songs in ten places around the world, alongside a film, serving as a "visual journey," that will be "a combination of documentary and fiction." The prospective locations include Egypt's Great Pyramid of Giza, the desert in Joshua Tree, California and the volcanic caves on Lanzarote (part of the Canary Islands). Saiz's live band and his brother's filmmaking company Natura HD will be key collaborators.
If all goes according to plan, the album and film—as yet untitled—will be released together in mid-2017. Along with the usual offerings of downloads and CD and vinyl releases (and signed media), devoted supporters can seek rewards like a limited-edition hardcover photo book, an even more limited cassette, original handwritten lyric sheets and, for the biggest contributors, perks like a private party with Saiz DJing and an "associate producer" credit.
