- The searches are part of an operation targeting the finances of nightclubs across Spain.
Ibiza venues Space and Privilege were searched this morning as part of a crackdown on the finances of Spanish nightclubs.
According to Diario de Ibiza, officials from Spain's national Tax Agency (AEAT) started searching the two venues at 6 AM on Friday, July 8th, assisted by the police. The searches are part of a nationwide investigation, labelled Operation Chopin, which is looking into the finances of the nightlife sector, with a specific focus on fraud. In total 87 establishments are being looked into across Spain, including four in Ibiza.
The searches at Space and Privilege follow a police raid of Amnesia in the early hours of July 6th. Subsequent searches at that venue saw police using pick axes to find hidden compartments, with sources close to the investigation saying more than €2 million in cash had been found.
Another Spanish newspaper, El Mundo, says that the four people arrested in the Amnesia operation—club owner Martin Ferrer, artistic director Marti Ferrer, general/business manager David de Felipe and accountant Vicente Pérez de Montis—were given conditional release on Thursday. The conditions state that the four man must appear periodically before a judge. Also, they cannot leave Spain without permission from a judge, and they must hand in their passports.
