  • 2016's first Lord Of The Isles' release, an EP called Parabolas Of Neon, is out on Firecracker Recordings in September. Lord Of The Isles, AKA Scottish producer Neil McDonald, has long been associated with Firecracker boss Lindsay Todd. As Carlos Hawthorn's 2014 feature on McDonald revealed, the two of them cut their teeth as DJs over a decade ago at an Edinburgh residency called Negotiants. Parabolas Of Neon however, is his first record on the recent label of the month, following EPs on Firecracker sub-labels Unthank and Shevchenko. The last half-decade has also seen McDonald put out a string of well-received records on Phonica, Mule Musiq, and most recently, Permanent Vacation. The Lord Of The Isles sound can typically be described as an psychedelic brand of melodic house. The clips on the new one suggest McDonald ventures into some glacial ambience in addition to his usual beats. (The artwork on the right is just a placeholder. Firecracker is known for its elaborately silk-screened art and the official cover is still on the way.) Listen to clips from Parabolas Of Neon.
