Sadiq Khan has issued a statement about last night's decision to revoke fabric's license.
Writing on Facebook, Khan says that he's "disappointed that fabric, Islington Council and the Metropolitan Police were unable to reach agreement on how to address concerns about public safety."
He goes to state that the "issues faced by fabric point to a wider problem of how we protect London's night-time economy," and stresses that those involved must "work together" on such issues. He also reiterates his plans to appoint a Night Czar, which he says will "bring together key stakeholders" in London's nightlife.
Khan points out that London has lost "50 percent of its nightclubs and 40 percent of its live music venues" in the past few years, and that "this decline must stop" if London is to remain a 24-hour city.
The mayor's latest statement follows a series of comments on fabric's troubles, in which he's repeatedly voiced his support for the club while conceding that he's not in a position to influence Islington Council's decision.
