The duo's second full-length comes through Ostgut Ton in November.
Andreas Baumecker and Sam Barker represent a more playful side of Berghain's in-house label, taking in different sounds and ideas and going beyond the pale of conventional house and techno. For their second album, following 2012's Transsektoral and a new single teased earlier this month, the duo have focused on the idea of turns, as the title hints. "Almost everyone turns towards the middle," says Baumecker, while the fourth track, an interlude called "Technogate," representing a shift in the middle of the LP too.
Turns also references turnhalle, a German word for a gymnasium or a sports hall, which is a reference to Berghain. The duo said they tested out every track in the Berlin club, while the tune "Turnhalle" itself was "recorded playing back through the Berghain soundsystem," with the duo attempting to capture the sound and feeling of walking up the staircase into the club. Ostgut Ton compares other tracks on Turns to Steve Reich and Raster-Noton.
