  • Terry Riley will perform live at The Getty Center's Harold M. Williams Auditorium on December 17th. Riley, active since the early '60s, is a pioneer of minimal composition, with works like 1964's In C, 1969's A Rainbow in Curved Air and 1972's Persian Surgery Dervishes considered masterpieces within the genre. At The Getty, he'll perform with his son, the composer and guitarist Gyan Riley. The duo will improvise along to Untitled (Shepard-Risset Glissando With Color), a new piece by conceptual artist Peter Coffin. The Getty's press release promises the intimate auditorium will be filled with "an immersive projection of radiant fields of color that shift through the spectrum in tandem with the Shepard-Risset Glissando, an auditory illusion of oscillating sound waves." The audiovisual show is free, though registration is required. Find full details in the event listing below. Watch some footage of Terry Riley filmed in the '70s.
