  • Loscil is releasing an album with American cellist Mark Bridges under the name High Plans. The Vancouver-based Loscil, AKA Scott Morgan, first met Mark Bridges, of Madison, Wisconsin, when they both had residencies at the Banff Centre For The Arts in Alberta in 2014. Bridges contributed music to Morgan's generative music app Adrift in 2015, and then earlier this year the two artists spent a couple of weeks recording together in Saratoga, Wyoming. Cinderland, their debut album, was inspired both by Wyoming's wintry landscape and Schubert's Die Winterreise. All sounds were recorded at a portable studio in an old schoolhouse, as well as field recordings from the outside environment. Label Kranky says the album is a "site-specific, wide scope view of the high valley terrain... a mix of analog and digital, neoclassical and modern electronic sounds." In addition to releasing Cinderland, Kranky will also press one of Morgan's defining albums, 2004's First Narrows, on vinyl in the spring. Listen to High Plains' "Cinderland" below.
