  • Audio-Technica unveiled a new turntable and cartridges at CES 2017 in Las Vegas. Retailing for under US$300, the AT-LP3 is a belt-driven, automatic deck with a straight tone-arm and AT91R Dual Moving Magnet cartridge. A built-in phono preamp can be switched to accommodate either moving magnet or moving coil cartridges and removes the need for additional powering equipment. Coming in a choice of black or white, it appears aimed at a step above entry-level products, offering quality components at a relatively affordable price point. The new VM series of cartridges, meanwhile, comes in nine varieties of stylus and cartridge shape. This means different combinations can be made to tailor your preference. For instance, the VM750SH is optimised for mid and low frequencies, while the Shibata stylus is developed specifically "for playing four channel vinyl records." There's currently no information regarding prices. The Audio-Technica AT-LP3 will be available later in 2017 for $279.
