Fractured and DMC have teamed up this Friday 15 August to bring you the launch of Ils' new mix compilation for the Y4K series on Distinctive. Illian Walker's rise in the world of music has been nothing if not bumpy, with his first album, "Idiots Behind The Wheel", not getting released because the label went under.
With rent due, Ils continued doing studio work, and a new friendship with LTJ Bukem helped out. "You could come into (my studio) for a day, have a spliff, have a cup of tea, and have a track out on Good Looking by accident. That was the good old days, man." His career continued at James Lavelle's influential Mo'Wax label, where he not only benefited from the expert tutelage of one DJ Shadow, but was handsomely commissioned for a bundle of advertising gigs.
Ils stepped forward into his place in the world of breaks when he became the first artist on Marine Parade to release a 12-track album, the timeless "Soul Trader", with its warm organice sound, strings, vocals and well programmed drums.
Ils was also placed in the top five in three categories at this year's BreaksPoll Awards: best producer, best new act, and best album. If that wasn't enough, ILS now has a Y4K under his belt, and he's started production on his third album.
Get down to Fractured this Friday to hear the new Y4K and maybe win an album giveaway. Guest dj on Friday is Mr King, and Fractured will be introducing their new resident MC , MC Blue.
