  • On The Map, a new album from German artists David Moufang, AKA Move D, and Thomas Meinecke, will see release on Kassem Mosse's Ominira label in May. Moufang and Meinecke have worked together on a handful of adventurous concept albums, dating back to the 2000 double album set Tomboy / Freud's Baby. They've also teamed up on a couple more straightforward, house-leaning records, including Workshop 02, issued in 2007 on the Workshop imprint, which Mosse is closely affiliated with. (Meinecke was credited as DJ Laté on those collaborations.) This five-track, double-vinyl gatefold set for release is described as "exploring the history of black music and culture in five US cities," namely Norfolk, Washington DC, Houston, East St. Louis and Watts, the latter a neighborhood in Los Angeles that was a separate municipality before it was annexed in 1926. Each piece incorporates audio footage of people in its titular location, most of which are "strong manifests about their surrounding environment or the political climate," along with vocals from Meinecke, who also wrote liner notes about each place with Anna Werkmeister. Listen to "Norfolk."
