- Darren Cunningham, AKA Actress, has collaborated with a team of musicians and visual artists on Different Trains 1947, a piece commemorating India's 70th anniversary of Independence. The audiovisual project is the brainchild of UK-based arts organisation Metal, in partnership with Boiler Room, Barbican, Warp Records and Indian partners Wild City and What About Art? Cunningham worked alongside Indian producer Sandunes, These New Puritans' Jack Barnett and British artists and filmmakers Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, responding to the events of 1947, when India officially separated from the British Empire. The group also drew inspiration from Steve Reich's 1988 composition Different Trains. Different Trains 1947 will be performed live three times in 2017, premiering at Liverpool's Edge Hill railway station—the oldest of its kind in the world—on September 28th, before heading to London's Barbican on October 1st and to Rajasthan for Magnetic Fields Festival in December. The music will sit alongside a mix of archival footage and contemporary audio interviews, conducted with people who lived through the period. Darkstar are the support act.
