The Norwegian veteran had access to the psych band's original analog tapes.
Thomas has long been a fan of Dungen. "Their music is a daily staple in the house," he says. "So much so that even my three-year-old daughter recognizes any Dungen record from the first few seconds playing." When the band contacted Thomas for a remix based on their latest album Häxan, he says it was a "dream comes true" moment. Thomas immersed himself in the original analog tapes, eventually coming out of the studio with over an hour of recorded material.
"This is not a Dungen album," he says. "More like an exploration of the raw material. In some places only using a single sound or two to construct something new." Dungen, the Swedish band led by Gustav Ejstes, broke through to the world stage in 2004 with Ta Det Lugnt. They've released nine albums in all, and Häxan was originally conceived as a score to the 1929 film Adventures Of Prince Achmed.
In 2017 Thomas has worked with a couple different members of the Norwegian disco scene. A collaboration with Bjørn Torske came out last week, and he's also remixed Todd Terje.
