Tony Humphries, ABRA and Le1f will also feature in the second edition of the citywide festival, starting August 31st.
The Red Bull Music Academy's Weekender will return to Sydney at the end of August, with Peven Everett topping the bill.
Following last year's inaugural event, which saw Larry Heard make his Australian debut, the four-day festival will once again take over a range of venues across the city for a series of concerts, parties and talks. 2017 continues the trend of booking Chicago house royalty to headline the Weekender, with Everett appearing at Sky High, an outdoor party on September 2nd. On the same day, CC:DISCO, Mike Who and Adi Toohey will play at a TBA location.
The programme begins on August 31st with Via Alice, a collaboration between New York rapper Le1f and indigenous Australian choreographer and dancer Waangenga Blanco, which takes place at Carriageworks. There will be multiple Via Alice performances over the weekend with a free VR film component. Also on the 31st, Aboriginal reggae-rock group No Fixed Address are joined by Coloured Stone at 107 Projects, with NFA frontman Bunna Lawrie giving a talk there the next day.
Following 2016's "Talk To The Sea" concept, the Weekender introduces "Talk To The Breeze" at a new harbourside spot, Middle Head Fort, on September 1st. There, Japanese ambient composer Midori Takada will perform alongside Krakatau and Wilson Tanner, AKA András and Eleventeen Eston. Later that night, Atlanta alt-R&B artist ABRA plays at Manning Bar with a selection of acts from Australian hip-hop collective Thank Guard.
Prior to the Peven Everett concert on September 2nd, NYC house legend Tony Humphries will sit down with RBMA alumna Lorna Clarkson for a talk at 107 Projects. Later on, the Zanzibar resident will play his first ever Australian set with the Mad Racket crew at the Marrickville Bowling Club. The weekend wraps up on September 3rd with the One Day Carpark Carnival, a celebration of Australian hip-hop with more than a dozen acts performing in and around Max Watt's in the Entertainment Quarter.
The road to the Sydney Weekender will be paved by a series of shows with ABRA and the Thank Guard crew, who hit Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane from August 26th through 31st. Melbourne will also receive two more sideshows: Midori Takada at the Melbourne Recital Centre on August 29th and Peven Everett at Max Watt's on September 1st.
