Its happened! Jurassic 5 and The Roots are touring Australia as part of the Livid Festival. Now their spin-off solo shows have been announced, much to the delight of hip hop fans. This is the first time that Australian audiences will witness two hip hop groups of this calibre grace the same stage live.
Jurassic 5 have just been doing a world tour. The Los Angeles crew consists of four MCs and two DJs. Chali 2na’s booming rhythmical voice, Soup’s soulful melodies, Marc 7’s colourful craftiness and Akil’s spirited rhymes, are held down by musical maestros, Cut Chemist and Numark. Their latest album, "Power In Numbers" offers amazing moments of introspection and anthems of empowerment.
J5 will play alongside hip hop’s most acclaimed live band, The Roots, as they deliver a heavily layered organic journey through funk, jazz, rock and hip hop. Hailing from Philadelphia, The Roots is a collective of incredibly talented musicians and rappers. Co-founder and drummer/producer, ?uestlove is universally hailed as a creative genius and lyricist Black Thought as a true poet. Human turntablist, Scratch adds to the vocal flava, while the driving basslines (Hub), atmospheric keyboard melodies (Kamal) and rhythmic guitar grunt, create a sonic backdrop second to none. Their sixth album "Phrenology" is out now. Don't miss what is sure to be the hip hop event of the year.
