It's out on Erased Tapes in January, before Frahm heads out on his first world tour since 2015.
The acclaimed German pianist, composer and producer's next full-length effort was conceived in his brand new Berlin studio, Saal 3, located in the historic Funkhaus building alongside the River Spree. We're told he spent a good chunk of the last two years "deconstructing and reconstructing the entire space, from the cabling and electricity to the woodwork," before "building a pipe organ and creating a mixing desk all from scratch with the help of his friends."
Parts of All Melody—whose name seems to come from a piece he performed during his 2014 RA Session—were recorded "in an old dry well in Mallorca," according to press notes, but the primary setting was his new studio. The cover art features a photo of the artist in the space, and physical copies of the album will come with a booklet featuring more in-studio photography.
Frahm's introduction to the album is somewhat opaque: "I wanted to hear beautiful drums, drums I've never seen or heard before, accompanied by human voices, girls and boys. They would sing a song from this very world and it would sound like it was from a different space... My pipe organ would turn into a drum machine, while my drum machine would sound like an orchestra of breathy flutes. I would turn my piano into my very voice, and any voice into a ringing string."
Next year also sees Frahm embarking on his first world tour since 2015. Having previously revealed dozens of dates around Europe (including a three-night run in London), today he announced 18 US and Canada gigs for March and April. Check out his artist page to keep track of his bookings.
