  • Coachella founder Goldenvoice has abruptly severed its relationship with FYF Fest founder Sean Carlson. Entertainment industry publication Variety broke the story, obtaining an e-mail circulated to talent agencies by Goldenvoice CEO Paul Tollett. "Effective immediately, Goldenvoice has ended its relationship with Sean Carlson," the message reads. "We're evaluating our path forward as it relates to FYF Fest." Carlson founded FYF at the age of 18, originally situating the punk-oriented festival in LA's Echo Park neighborhood. The event quickly grew, moving to Los Angeles State Historic Park in 2009 before partnering with Goldenvoice in 2013 and landing at the sprawling Exposition Park grounds in 2014. In recent years, Carlson's festival has attracted headliners such as Missy Elliot, Kanye West, Morrissey and Björk, while also turning an eye towards dance floor sounds. This year's edition featured Omar-S, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Honey Soundsystem and DJ Harvey. Goldenvoice and FYF have also collaborated on standalone club events. They recently booked Bicep at Echoplex and have a show with The Black Madonna on the books. No reason has been given for Carlson's departure. RA has reached out to Carlson and Goldenvoice for comment.
