  • A new limited-edition photography book, titled Mydriasis, aims to document the international house and techno party scene. Mydriasis—the name is the medical term for pupil dilation that's usually related to trauma, disease or drug use—is the result of a collaboration between Parisian visual artist Irwin Barbé and Lyon graphic design studio Local Service, along with some 40 photographers from around the world. It's been in the works for two years. Along with hundreds of photos arranged to portray "the different intensities, sensations and emotions" experienced during a night of partying, we're told the book will feature bits of writing that "oscillate between fact and fiction, and emphasize the psychological and emotional questions that emanate from the pictures." "Our aim was to make an immersive object, and to re-create the loss of sensorial and cultural reference points typical of these festive moments," says Barbé, who's worked with labels like Antinote, Latency and blundar. "We imagined this book as a subjective representation of the resurgences of the house and techno cultural movements, the new ways of partying that our generation (re)invents and, by extension, an aesthetic analysis of the places where club and rave culture is consumed nowadays." The book will be available in an edition of 200 signed and numbered copies. Further details, including a publishing date, are still TBA—it's a crowdfunded project, and you can learn more at its Ulele page. Check out a few mock-ups for Mydriasis.
