Physical, digital and merch sales all grew over the course of last year.
Sales were up across the board at the independent music platform. Digital sales increased 16% for albums and 33% for tracks, while merch sales were up by 36%. In terms of physical units, vinyl saw the biggest increase (54%), followed by tapes (41%) and CDs (18%). The figures stand in contrast to the music industry's overall downturn in digital and physical sales, according to a Nielsen report cited by Bandcamp. (Digital sales in general also fell 20% for albums and 23% for singles.)
In total, revenue from record labels selling on Bandcamp—which now numbers around 3,500—grew 73% in 2017. The company also announced that it has paid out $270 million to artists since it launched in 2007.
