  • Mo Kolours will release his third full-length, Inner Symbols, on Five Easy Pieces this June. The UK-based producer, real name Joseph Deenmamode, took inspiration from Plato for the album's title—specifically, the philosopher's writing on music: "Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, charm and gaiety to life and everything." Deenmamode made the album, his third, by feeding samples and live instrumentation into an Electro-Harmonix Looper complemented by a Roland drum machine. It's influenced by the traditional sega music of his father's native Mauritius, as well as classic recordings by the likes of "Jimi Hendrix and Michael Jackson, hip-hop, dub, soul and other electronic styles." On the album's themes, he says, "Inner Symbols is a musical path that begins within, and reveals itself outwardly, only to return to the INNER. Themes are introspection, truth, history, family, mental nature of reality, recognizing positivity, greed, honesty, unity, love, ignorance, lust and, of course, DRUMS!" Listen to "Right Before My Eyes."
