  • The second edition of Resident Advisor's Community Connections event series will take place in Lisbon from July 5th through 8th. Many of us have seen the headlines referring to Lisbon as "Europe's hot new art capital," but we don't often hear about the local artists who have helped build this lively and dynamic scene. For four days in July, we'll celebrate and collaborate with a selection of local crews, labels and collectives who are doing great things for all the right reasons. RA: Lisa, named after the local slang term for Lisbon, follows on from last year's inaugural edition, RA LAX, in Los Angeles and will feature various events—talks, radio shows, club nights, in-stores—held at venues across the capital. We kick off the series on Thursday, July 5th with a live broadcast at Lux Frágil, Lisbon's best-known club. Running from 5 PM through 9 PM, the laid-back session will feature four local acts easing us into the weekend with pyschedelic jams and an ambient soundtrack. On Friday, we head to the diggers favourite Flur Discos for an in-store with Nick Craddock, Sonja and more, before continuing the party at an unused warehouse space in collaboration with the local party mina. The lineup, which features a mix of locals and international guests, will be announced on the night. Saturday's action-packed programme begins in the afternoon at the exhibition-space-turned-venue Ze´ dos Bois with Filho U´nico, the crew responsible for bringing Príncipe Discos to a global audience. Two live Exchanges—including one about the challenges of running events in Lisbon—will be followed by several live performances (John T. Gast, Niagara, Toda Matéria) and DJ sets (DJ Lycox, DJ Narciso). In addition, there will be a workshop with the acclaimed experimental composer Rafael Toral and an audiovisual space curated by RA Films. For the weekend finale, we return to Village Underground Lisboa, the site of our November party. On Sunday, July 8th, we'll partner with Rádio Quântica, by many considered the beating heart of the local grassroots scene. Held from 5 PM through 8 PM, the live broadcast will include back-to-back sets from Violet and Photonz, and Caroline Lethô and Tombo, plus a live set from Bullion, who recently relocated to Lisbon.
