The crew at Melbourne house hideaway FFour are beyond themselves with excitement, which is always a good sign where DJs are concerned. So why the fuss? One of their favourite producers and DJs, Slater Hogan, is coming to Melbourne for the first time on Saturday March 27.
While you may not have heard of him before, his productions speak for themselves and his future looks bright. In a recent interview, when asked what he had been listening to of late, Mark Farina noted Slater Hogan as one of his favourite producers,
"These guys Slater Hogan and John Larner from Chicago, up and coming producers that I like that have this Chicago swing style of house, like Al Capone gangster house, cotton club, vaudeville style deep house very swingy, old mobster, roaring 20s sounding house – swing piano samples, Louis Armstrong type vocals."
Slater has taken this beautifully rare sound all over the United States and beyond. Since he dropped his first record, he has played with the likes of Mark Farina, Little Louie Vega, Derrick Carter, Tricky, DJ Heather and Carl Cox. He has maintained residencies in Chicago, Cincinnati, Louisville, St. Louis and his hometown of Indianapolis.
Slater co-owns Muzique Boutique Recordings with partners, John Larner and Shawn Collins. The first three releases (Tony Senghore and Jonene, Hakan Lidbo, Lance DeSardi) received high acclaim from DJs such as Mark Farina, DJ Sneak, and DJ Heather. Along with his partner, John Larner, Slater has produced over 12 records in 6 months on respected labels such as Aroma, Lowdown, Icon, After School, Gallery, Odds and Ends, Hip Therapist, and Mouthful, among others.
