  • Broken Home is a new monthly party in Melbourne devoted to breakbeat, as played by the residents Brewster B, Keltec and Dan Mangan. After working tirelessly over the last few months to get the format, vibe and atmosphere of each night right, the ‘Broken Home’ gaggle are now satisfied that the mix is ready for a sprinkle of some of the finest interstate break’s talent in Australia. On Friday 20 August, Broken Home "The Interstate Series" will feature musicians Musiq for Pleasure (Qld) playing live, at Brown Alley (Colonial Hotel). It will be the first appearance outside the Sunshine State for the booty funking live breaks act. They'll be playing alongside the residents and supporting guest, Tahl (as the beaver), for a night of sheer pleasure, complete with cool vibes, great atmosphere, LIVE local music, and boogalicious beats! Born four years ago out of the liking that two nerds had for the musically eclectic and electric, Musiq For Pleasure are now somewhat synonymous with Queensland breaks, having played a string of successful parties and nights including Moon Bar, Monastery and Rics. Currently poised to support The Orb, and having recently toured with Old Des Perez, their recent success stems from the release of their debut album, ‘Soul Time’, mixed over two years in Brisbane, London and New York. Representing a smorgasbord of different, broken flavours, ‘Soul Time’ touches on Jazz, Soul, R&B, Breaks, House and Electro influences, while the first single has been included on AKA’s ‘If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It’ compilation. General admission entry is only $10 and includes a humorous badge of random silliness, ‘Broken Home Is Sweet!’ lolly bag, free cloakroom and a fridge magnet! Alternatively, entry is $5 on the blaggers guestlist.
