  • It was sixties cartoon character Roger Ramjet who popularised the notion of a Proton pill which gave him the strength of twenty atom bombs. These days it's Proton Radio which is delivering the bombs, this time of the musical variety; a fact reflected in its growing listenership, which earlier this month broke all previously established records when over 2000 listeners tuned in to the exclusive broadcast of Sasha's Involved Events party in Orlando. The station has come a long way since it began a few years ago; the support received by last year's compilation mixed by Lance Cashion enabling the station to move forward with its label and begin putting out music the Proton crew are passionate about, like its first release Digital Witchcraft's 'Fingerpaint', which gets a full release as of today, April 21st. Jason Wohlstadter from Proton explains,
"Proton started as a website to post charts by a group of like-minded friends. Having a radio station wasn't even on our minds, let alone a label. So our label is going to try and put out songs that the Proton crew love and think deserve to be heard on their own. 'Fingerpaint' is a perfect example of this. Way Out West played the track on the BBC a few years ago and everyone (including us) were totally blown away -- but a year later the track still hadn't been picked up."
The label will be using remix competitions of its releases as a way of uncovering upcoming artists, nearly 300 remix entries of its first release 'Fingerpaint' ensuring Proton will have plenty to choose from - the winner will be announced on May 15th. Next up on the label will be a release from Canadian producer, Formulate. For now, Proton Music will be sticking to the platform it's most comfortable with; 'Fingerpaint' and future releases only available at digital online stores like iTunes, Beatport, and EDM Digital. However those keen to physically get their hands on some Proton goods should drop by the Proton Store, which has been restocked with T-shirts and stickers. In the meantime we suggest you follow the lead of Roger Ramjet's supporters and...stay tuned to this station.
