  • John Course is well know to house fans throughout Australia, as a guest at interstate parties, for his Melbourne residency at OneLove and for his mixes for Ministry of Sound, ‘Dance, House & Club Anthems’ and the ‘A Night Out With’ series. He now adds another to the list with his newest mix CD Vicious Cuts. RA interviewed John to get the low down on the new CD and most informatively his attitude to house music and its massive commercial presence these days.
"With house sounds crossing over so much it means the good DJ’s have to work harder to find things and keep ahead of where the commercial mainstream is at. What you hear at Onelove is quite different to what you hear on our Nova mixes (our being Grant Smillie and myself) which is a good example of finding fresh music for the club while still giving commercial listeners every opportunity to hear new music and build the whole club music movement."
Another point that comes across from the interview is John's long-sighted view to his place in the music industry. While he has been Djing for more than 15 years he is also well placed to mould the tastes of the general public through his job at a radio DJ, and shape the future of house through producing his own songs, fostering local talent and releases tracks on his label with Vicious.
