  • In a year which has seen much of the dance music industry looking towards all things minimal and German, the DJ Mag Top 100 Poll 2005 Results has seen another big victory for the German nation. This year's poll saw a record 123,955 votes from 147 countries around the world with 20 new entries and 5 re-entries and RA can now announce the results. Predictably, Trance DJs continued to dominate the higher positions in the Top 10. However the big news is that there has been a change of guard with Paul van Dyk wrestling the crown from Tiesto to take the No.1 position, after the Dutch superstar's three years at the top spot. It's the first time the German trance DJ has been voted No.1 in his career and comes on top of his release earlier this year of Politics of Dancing 2. With Paul van Dyk at No.1 and Tiesto slipping back to No.2, Armin van Buuren, Sasha and Ferry Corsten have all remained firm at No.3, 4 and 5 respectively as in the 2004 Poll. Making his entry into the Top 10 this year is ATB in at No.9 with Carl Cox also sneaking back in at No.10. A better year for the prog jocks with both John Digweed and Deep Dish jumping two places to No.6 and No.8 respectively, Resident Advisor's Hernan Cattaneo at No.7, DJ Vibe rocketing up 40 places and Desyn Masiello, Luke Fair, Martin Garcia, Moshic, Chus & Ceballos and Christian Cambas all making it into the Top 100 for the first time. Interestingly though, all of the Global Underground Nubreed DJs: Danny Howells, Steve Lawler, Lee Burridge and Satoshi Tomiie took falls. In techno, Sven Vath and Dave Clarke made small gains while Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier and Chris Liebing all took tumbles. The minimal representatives were, as expected, dealt some good cards with Richie Hawtin jumping a massive 32 places to No.12, Magda breaking into the poll at No.100 and Ricardo Villalobos in at No.47. Mixed fortunes for the electro cats with Felix da Housecat and Miss Kittin falling but Tiga a new entry at No.44. Psychedelic trance finally got some long overdue props with Infected Mushroom the highest new entry in at No.26. The poll was well and truly dominated by the 4/4 beat with the Plump DJs the only breaks jocks and Andy C the sole drum 'n' bass representative. More mainstream dance DJs like Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong and Paul Oakenfold lost ground while house stalwarts Roger Sanchez, Erick Morillo, Armand van Helden, Danny Tenaglia and Victor Calderone all climbed higher.
