  • The Goethe-Institut has published a new book diving into the clubbing history of the African and European continents. Featuring photography and 21 essays penned by 25 writers—including music journalists, musicologists, club activists, record collectors, historians and more—Ten Cities: Clubbing in Nairobi, Cairo, Kyiv, Johannesburg, Berlin, Naples, Luanda, Lagos, Bristol, Lisbon. 1960-March 2020 is out now via Spector Books. Ten Cities' three editors, Johannes Hossfeld Etyang, Joyce Nyairo and Florian Sievers, began the book as a research project between Nairobi and Berlin in 2010. Two years later, the project invited about 50 electronic music artists based in Africa and Europe to collaborate with each other, resulting in a later 2014 compilation on Soundway Records, Ten Cities. The Goethe-Institut is a German non-profit cultural association. Earlier this year, the institute partnered with GROOVE Magazine to launch a programme for aspiring writers. Check out some photos from the book.
