  • More analogue than analogue. Get inside the brain of RunStopRestore's Marc Houle at the Minimize to Maximize party happening on Friday at BED during the WMC. Joining Richie Hawtin and Troy Pierce for the Minimize to Maximize party at this year's WMC will be Marc Houle, the third member of Run Stop Restore, along with Magda and Troy Pierce. Often referred to as the 'analogue mind' of the trio, Marc Houle says he will be performing at the WMC party using a Korg MS-20 controller, his laptop and a Jomox drum machine, "for nice analogue drums going through the club's PA". In recent times, the label 'minimal' has been applied to many different type sof DJs and producers so we asked Marc Houle to describe the kind of set he'll be playing at his WMC gig without using the term. "I suppose you could say it's melodic, without being too cheesy, stripped down without being too boring and dynamic without being too ADD," explains Houle. "Old Chicago meets old Detroit in a new, bleepy way. Basic dance music for both girls and boys." The Minimize to Maximize concept has previously been brought to some rather large venues around the world like the 4000+ Club Phazon party in Tokyo. Given BED perhaps represents the more 'minimize' end of venues, will this affect how or what Houle plays? "Oddly enough the size of the club has no bearing to how I feel when I play...I do care a lot however about how the crowd reacts and if they are really caring what I do... I would much rather play a small intimate party where people appreciate bleeps than a giant club full of, well, fromage." Good news for fans of RunStopRestore with Marc Houle revealing there are several finished tracks waiting in the wings and slated for their new sub-label Items & Things, "We currently have a number of tracks in the vault - my favourite one, 'Close the Door', will hopefully get released soon enough! To me the RSR songs are sacred since they are the result of all our work together." As far as the inclusion of any new RunStopRestore tracks in his set at the Minimize to Maximize party goes, Houle says, "I am not too sure yet - but for sure I will play 'Geometry' - I love that bassline so much. Bubbuubbbback to black..." Marc Houle plays the Minimize to Maximize party with Richie Hawtin and Troy Pierce at BED on March 24th, 2006.
