  • Do you own one of the millions of iPods that have been sold since 2001? Not everyone at RA has chosen to go with Apple's flagship portable mp3 player but if you have, congratulations for helping them push over 8.5 million units ranging from the original iPod, the Shuffle and the Nano, in their various multi-gigabyte forms. With revenue exceeding $4.36 billion (yes, that's no typo) from iPod sales, the figure represents a massive 34 percent increase from a year ago and is the second-highest earnings for the portable audio (and now including video) player for Apple to date. Although the technology used in the iPod was never an original concept and portable hard drive mp3 players were already on the market back in 2001, thanks to a slick marketing campaign, ubercool design aesthetics and the iTunes store and software, love it or hate it, the iPod has become the mp3 player of choice for many music fans. Tell us whether you own one of the already shifted 8.5 million iPods or another maker's portable mp3 device in our current Reader's Poll on the left of the RA homepage.
