  • The seventh edition of Montreal's Mutek Festival promises a whirlwind of sound, music and audiovisual creation.

  • This year's edition of the Mutek Festival in Montreal promises a whirlwind of sound, music and audiovisual creation. Now in its seventh year, Mutek looks set to be even bigger and better in 2006 with Piknic Electronik presenting an open-air afternoon program for the first time on both Saturday and Sunday at Parc Jean-Drapeau. Piknic 1 will feature Sonja Moonear, Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts, Audio Werner, Henrik Schwarz, Dandy Jack, Junction SM while Piknic 2 will host the final date of the min2MAX North American Tour and include M_nus artists Richie Hawtin, Magda, Troy Pierce and Marc Houle plus surprise guests. The Nocturne events taking place each night of the festival will include DJ sets and live performances from Hrdvsion, Clark, Jackson & his Computer Band, Eliot Lipp, 1-Speed Bike, ModeSelektor, Lawrence, Stephen Beaupré, Alex Under, Guido Schneider, Dimbiman, Mossa, Nôze, Thomas Brinkmann, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Interstellar Fugitives, Mike Shannon, avec/feat. Anaïs & Tim Bones, Jan Jelinek, Pole & Band - Leichtmann: drums, Zeitblom: bass and Deadbeat while Pierre Bastien, Artificiel, S.S.S. / Sensors_Sonics_Sights, Ryoichi Kurokawa, Marc Leclair (Akufen) & Gabriel Coutu-Dumont and Freeform will all participate in the A/Visions events exploring the close relationship between image and sound. Complementing the nighttime events is an impressive daytime program including discussion panels and workshops on Introduction to DJing and Producing with Ableton Live, Mixing and Remixing, Creative Combinations of Music Hardware and Software, Mastering, Advanced Ablelton Live Techniques, VJing Visual Performance Techniques and Integrating Visuals with Music Performance. The Mutek Festival 2006 takes place May 31 - June 4 at various venues in Montreal, Canada.
