  • In the first of a new series, RA scours the web each week for the best online mixes, podcasts and interviews and delivers them in one handy clickable web thingie. Things to listen to while you’re doing the washing up. ** This first one is a doozy. In the studio this week for Radio 1’s Essential Mix is electrohouse duo Booka Shade who break out the drum pads and doodads for a one hour live set, which would be worth listening to anyway, but what really gets our motors running is the rare prospect of them DJing the second hour – uh, can these guys actually mix? The BBC archives their streams for a week if you can’t figure out the timezones but it’s live on Saturday July 2nd from 1 a.m to 3 a.m GMT. Fancy something a little more party party? Germany's Big City Beats are having in techno impresario Carl Cox for an hour on July 2nd at 1:00 a.m GMT+1. (For the teutonically challenged, click the Big FM logo on the lower right to access the stream.) The ever affable Cox also speaks about his plans for summer and his love of Supertramp (!) and Elton John (?) in a downloadable interview. Obscure but good: Chaton from Chaton + Hopen is in the chair (Why do radio DJs sit down?) for the latest installment of his Plakradio show on Friday July 7th 10:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. GMT+1. The Hrdvsion remix of Chaton + Hopen's first release 'An Area' was one of the highlights of Dominik Eulberg's 'Kreucht & Fleucht' and the original channels Basic Channel! Go here, scroll down to the Plakradio stream and Bob's your uncle. Couldn’t make it to Sonar? Everyone seemed to agree that Detroit's Ryan Elliott stole the show on Saturday night beating out an impressive who's who of techno including Isolee, Audion and even Hawtin vs. Villalobos. Luckily Dutch recording maestros VPRO were on hand to record Elliott's effort plus sets by Tiga, Jeff Mills and Agoria. And finally one for the house heads. The audio section of the website for The End in London has a set of electronic house by Rob Mello and D'Julz recorded live in the lounge in May 2006. Mello’s track 'Critical' is on constant rotation round these parts – the track was deservedly chosen as the hundredth and final 12" on Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon's Classic Recordings imprint. Check out Mello's fine and mellow turntable skills. Okay, that’s it. Don’t forget RA’s own podcast which you can download every Monday. This week’s guest is… not telling yet. Also if you have any brilliant links to amazing music which you want to share with the world, post them in the forum or send 'em along to [email protected] with the subject line Radioactivity. *** Radioactivity - delivered to your door with the milk every Saturday morning GMT.
