  • The latest single on Spectral pits man against woman in the form of a split 12” from Audion and Ellen Allien. ‘Just a Man’ by Audion and ‘Just a Woman’ by Ellen Allien will be presented in their original versions followed by remixes as the pair go to work on each other’s tracks. For our ears’ sake, let’s hope the fight is fair and no one resorts to sabotage. Audion is the alter-ego of producer and DJ Mathew Dear as an outlet for his noisier tendencies, as demonstrated by the slab-of-sound LP ‘Suckfish’ in 2005. Fresh from his ‘Fabric 28’ mix CD and his remix of Koze’s ‘Raw’ in March, Audion rolls up his sleeves to break all the gentlemanly rules and go into the ring for the guys. Ellen Allien is a DJ, producer and the CEO of Berlin-based techno label Bpitch Control. 2006 was a big year for Allien – her full-length collaboration with Apparat ‘Orchestra Of Bubbles’ was received warmly even outside techno circles. As a producer her signature style is instantly recognizable: tough techno with electro, noise and pop influences. Just a woman, indeed. Expect something slapping and kicking. The idea behind ‘Just a Man/Woman’ was dreamed up in 2005 when the pair were on tour in America. RA doesn’t know what horrors ensued on the tour, but the two agreed to transpose the dynamic to vinyl, the result of which is this double-A. As the PR puts it:
“Just a Man/Woman" is an unprecedented battle of the sexes where each side makes an iron-clad case.”
