- London party Formula step away from their usual funky house for their next party at The Key. The night will be headlined by prog and electrohouse producer Chris Lake. After two years of running various funky house nights around London and Brighton, the Formula promotions group have decided to shift with the musical times and try something different. The main staple at their next party will be uplifting and vocal electronic house and dirty underground electro. "As we all know, funky house music as we know it has dried up. This will be our attempt to show people our version of the way forward and to let everyone know that electronic house can be vocal and uplifting," says Formula's Paul Roche about the shift in music policy. Headlining the event will be Chris Lake, the latest producer to be championed by Pete Tong. He first burst onto the progressive house scene back in 2002 with singles on Maelstrom and Lost Language but has been pricking up ears recently with more electrohouse fare on his own imprint Rising Music. Lake is best known for last year's 12" 'Changes' which featured on Desyn Masiello's Balance CD. The track has just been licenced to Universal's dance offshoot Apollo, hinting he's poised for bigger and better things. Chris Lake will be joined by scene stalwart Phil Drummond and equally dab studio hands Paul Jackson, D.Ramirez and Cheshire Catz. Between them they've had releases on Four:twenty, Audio Therapy, Underwater and Whoop. It's not all doom and gloom for Formula regulars and fans of funky house though. Formula will still showcase the sound at their Thursday night residency at the Tabernacle. Formula happens Saturday, August 5, 2006 at The Key, London.
