  • The first mix CD on label du jour Get Physical by a non-German comes from Canadian-in-London Heidi. Berlin label Get Physical is home of German electrohousers Booka Shade, M.A.N.D.Y and DJ T, but these days they’re spreading their feelers internationally with signings from Scotland (Williams), London (Riton) as well as Americans in Berlin (Fuckpony, Chelonis R. Jones). Now the foreigners are taking over the DJ booth too, with latest signing Heidi to release her debut mix ‘Monza Club Ibiza Comp. Vol 1’ on September 15th, 2006. Hailing from Windsor, Canada, you’d think that Heidi would have been raised on Richie Hawtin and traveling across the bridge to Detroit. But it wasn’t until the mid-nineties when she was dragged along to techno parties that she made the switch to electronic music. “I went to some amazing parties and it opened my eyes to what was out there,” Heidi explains. “Before that I was into shoegazing indie music and bands like Spiritualized. It’s only in the past five years that I have become fully immersed in electronic music." These days she resides in London, putting in time DJing as well as behind the counter at Phonica Records in Soho. So if you want a signed copy of the CD, you know where to shop. How did the Get Physical connection come about? “I met Philipp and Patrick from M.A.N.D.Y when they were doing a gig in London, and they invited me to play in Berlin, and they have been behind me ever since.” Gigs in Berlin led to appearances at Monza in Frankfurt and Ibiza. As the tide rose for electrohouse, Monza in Ibiza exploded in popularity, offering a refreshing alternative to the high priced drinks and attitude that reign elsewhere on the island. Heidi’s mix promises to capture the spirit of Monza with the deep house of Kerri Chandler and Dennis Ferrer slotted in alongside the tech hits of John Tejada and Martin Landsky. “It’s representative of a three-hour set that I would play, “ says Heidi. “I wanted to showcase all the different styles of music I’m into. I love stripped back techno but I also love deep house.” But it’s not all the shiniest and newest platters hidden under the counter at Phonica – the mix kicks off on Carl Craig’s classic mix of Maurizio’s 'Domina' from the nineties. “I love mixing up old stuff with new stuff. I couldn’t believe I was allowed to use that remix,” says Heidi. “I’ll probably get loads of people into the shop now looking for that great new Carl Craig remix.” Tracklist 1.
