  • Two years after it was booted out of its home on Leipziger Strasse, techno's most famous club is set to re-open at a new location in Mitte next month. The last party at the Tresor Club near Berlin's famous Potsdamer Platz was held on April 16, 2005 before the club was pushed out by developers wanting to build a high-rise office building. Since then the club has ceased to have a home, but the good news is that after several delays - it was originally supposed to open last weekend - Tresor has finally got its license and will open in May. So why all the setbacks? "It was such a big project and we had to sort out many things in advance including financial aspects and licensing, " Tresor's Michael Matuschek told RA. So what's it like, then? According to the press notes, the new Tresor is set in a former power station on Köpeniker street and consists of three floors: the Batterieraum (successor to the Globus), the +4 Bar which has views of the old power station ruins, and a basement which can be reached through a 30-metre tunnel. The club has also installed its Totec Turbosound PA system and the Bose PA system from the original club so it should sound like the real deal. Tresor will open every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday as well as for special events. Unlike other venues in Berlin known for their indefinite opening hours, they're keeping it short and sweet. "We will have certain closing times, because we prefer a crowd which is in the club only because of the music," says Matuschek. The club will continue to showcase techno DJs and live acts in line with its past musical philosophy but says it will also be "open to new musical directions & influences". Sven Väth will play the opening night on May 24 in what will be his first gig in Berlin in three years. Other DJs and live acts scheduled to play in May include Blake Baxter, Alan Oldham, The Advent, Heiko Laux, Stewart Walker and Todd Bodine. Check RA Berlin Events for dates and full line-ups.
