  • Basement Jaxx, Annie Mac and Rob da Bank line up this week at Fabric to raise funds for Malawi festival Lake of Stars. Lake of Stars is one of the more unusual festivals in the world. It takes place in Malawi in Southern Africa each October, with the idea being to raise money for charities operating in Malawi as well as raise the profile of the country. The festival combines Western performers with acts from all over Southern Africa, but it’s also a chance for a bit of cultural exchange in one of Africa’s least known, but reportedly friendliest countries. Andy Cato from Groove Armada on the festival: "You'll never see music cross as many boundaries and borders as this, and you’ll never listen to music in a more special place." Londoners who can’t make it all the way to Southern Africa can support the festival at home this Thursday at the festival fundraiser at Fabric. Lining up alongside Basement Jaxx, Annie Mac and Rob da Bank will be Liverpudlian rockers The Wombats, one-man-band Joe Driscoll, Black Cherry and electro-pop from Man Like Me. In room three, there’s a DJ Marathon with DJs from nights such as Mulletover, Chibuku, Bodytonic and Chew the Fat! playing one record each. Lake of Stars will take place on May 3rd at Fabric in London.
