  • Longtime drum n bass tastemaker Marcus Intalex shows off his unique approach to the genre with a crack at the 'FabricLive' series. 'FabricLive 35' is due out in August. As head of Soul:r Records and with thirteen years of original tracks and remixes under his belt, appeasing the lowest common denominator of drum n bass was the furthest thing from Intalex’s mind while crafting the mix. “"I don’t want to be disassociated from the rest of drum n bass at all – it’s just that the direction the music’s gone has put us out on a limb,” says Intalex. “I obviously don’t like a lot of drum n bass, but I absolutely love some of it as well. With our music, we need to have a no-compromise attitude: this is us, take it or leave it. And that’s what we get booked for. We don’t get booked because Andy C’s busy, know what I mean? I just do my thing; I’ve always stuck to my guns." The last time the 'FabricLive' series played host to a drum n bass DJ was ten entries back, when Hospital Records prodigy High Contrast delivered 'FabricLive 25'. But you won’t find a single track from Hospital, DnB’s biggest label, on Intalex’s mix. Instead, there are eight from the Soul:r stable and four from one of the scene’s most innovative, experimental and under-the-radar producers, Calibre. It’s nineteen tracks mixed by a man with twenty years experience DJing, having started as a teenager when he hooked up his mother’s turntables because he just “knew how to mix.” “I’m well aware that a lot of drum n bass is not particularly listenable for people who like a bit of everything. I’m trying to put a good light on drum n bass…and put it together to make a good representation of what I think drum n bass is." 'Fabric Live 35' tracklist 01. Calibre ft.
