  • Field Day is a new one-day festival that aims to combine the village fete feel of Bestival with leftfield dance, electronica and indie - all set in an East London Park. Musically the event nestles somewhere between ATP and Sonar. For the Sonar types there's the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Adem, Four Tet, Fridge, Battles, Justice and Matthew Dear live. For the skinny-jeaned indie types there's, among many others, 1990s, Metronomy, Electrelane and Bat for Lashes. For everyone else there's a whole lot more inbetween, lots of DJs and a welly-throwing contest. Yes, that's right, a welly throwing contest. Field Day, its promoters hope, will have such a fun, frolic-filled atmosphere that people will be able to come along and have a great time even if they don't see any bands. To this end there's going to be bunting, hay bales, hog roasts, a coconut shy, tea and cake stalls, barn dancing, and tug of war. And if you can drop your cool for a moment you also might like to check out the Morris dancing, largest marrow competition, Hoedown tent, Burlesque tent, and tombola. Yes, that’s right, a largest marrow contest. The 5,000 capacity event is being run by Eat Your Own Ears, Adventures In The Beetroot Field, Bugged Out! and Homefires. If you've been to any of their nights then you should have a good idea of what to expect.
