  • Shoreditch venue the T-Bar is offering £2,000 to a canny scout who manages to find them a new location. After five years of free clubbing, the lease on the T Bar’s prime location on Shoreditch High Street is up. Now the hunt is on for a new, and hopefully, better space. Bar manager Chris Brown claims that they’ve seen “a few very close contenders”, but admits that they’re unlikely to find another multi-purpose venue in such a choice location. Part of the problem is the size – they need somewhere with over 5,000 sq ft and, for obvious reasons, it can’t be too close to a residential area. Owner Jamie Ritchie is offering £2,000 to the eagle-eyed person who spots the perfect place. An egalitarian gesture in keeping with the venue’s ethos or a sign of desperation? With East End property prices skyrocketing over the last few years, and the number of faceless style bars multiplying at an alarming rate, the pool of potential sites suitable for a free techno club is limited. The T Bar are prepared to look anywhere in the Hackney area – anything from an existing bar to a derelict warehouse. According to Brown, the worst case scenario is they’ll be forced to abandon their bar and restaurant activities and become just another East End club. Any dance music loving property magnates with likely space available can contact the T Bar through their website.
