Sunday Best lineups announced

There was some question as to whether Brooklyn Yard would even be open this year, right? Can you tell us about that? Eamon: We're actually not entirely sure what the full story is here. Other than the owner was looking at some real estate opportunities and we suspect with the demise of the economy that became less of an option for him. Which is good news for us! We're delighted to be back. We were looking at a bunch of other spaces as there was no doubt we weren't going to do the party again. The Yard (or the Brooklyn Yard, as it's now called) can be a magical place and, with any party, the space you use is a huge part of the formula. Obviously you guys are excited about all of the bookings, but what is one that you're particularly looking forward to? Eamon: Harvey is a big one for me, not only because I'm such a huge fan but he's playing our closing party and from a booking perspective he's a catch. Last year's closer was amazing (Metro Area) and the prospect of having Harvey play in that context is mouth-watering. I'm also on a real Detroit tip right now so Omar-S, Theo Parrish and Kyle Hall are ones I'm very excited for. Doug: The attention given to curating a broad scope of talent makes the series special, so I look forward to how it evolves with each artist. I will say I think Motor City Drum Ensemble is going to be special. Justin: So hard to pick a particular one... I'm excited about a lot of them. Omar S has played two sets for parties I've been associated with in the past year, and both have been amazing. Theo's always mind expanding. Rub N Tug and Harvey are record breaking monsters. I mean, honestly, we don't book anyone we don't love. I guess if I had to pick one I'm particularly psyched about, it would be Kyle Hall. He's 17 years old. He's turning 18 a few days after he plays Sunday Best, and this'll be his first time ever in New York. I think those factors will add up to make a particularly exciting day. A lot of people know Eamon and Justin from the Mister Saturday Night party, but perhaps not Doug quite as much. How did you get involved with these fellows? Doug: You might say that I was the catalyst for a number of projects. I first asked Justin to work with me at the Water Taxi Beach in 2006. I had convinced the management that a dance party after PS1's Warm-up series would be wildly popular, but I needed more artists to book out the summer. With Justin's extensive contacts and my vision, we had a break-out year and we've been collaborating ever since. Last year, when we got the oppotunity to host a series at the Yard, Justin was travelling a lot and initially felt we would be over-burdened keeping up with Saturdays at WTB and Sundays at Brooklyn Yard. Knowing we had another fantastic opportunity, I suggested bringing Eamon on to take some pressure off. Eamon agreed and the result was Sunday Best! Justin: He's the reason this party's happening. He's also the reason The Beach Party at Water Taxi Beach in LIC happens. Four years ago Doug called and asked if I'd be interested in helping with a party he was thinking of throwing at a beach a few blocks from PS1. I was skeptical, as I didn't think anyone would come to a party in that obscure of a location, but Doug was convinced, and I went along. That summer, with some hard work exposing the place to people, we catapulted that place and that party into a new stratosphere, and a year later we were playing to 2800 people every Saturday. Once people saw the place and heard the music we were playing and curating, they couldn't stay away. Doug also was the one that convinced us to do Sunday Best at The Yard last year. I'd done an event there with Nublu the summer before, and Doug was convinced we could do something consistent there. He suggested we come together with Eamon, who I'd been working with at APT, so we put our heads together, and lo and behold, another great series was born. Mister Saturday Night is ending at Santos this week. Will he reappear at some point in the future? Justin: Yes! You can't keep a good man down, and Mister Saturday Night is a survivor. His exit from Santos is just a little vacation before he pops back up again in the next couple weeks. Pilooski will be joining him at a loft, and Prins Thomas will be coming to play with him this summer.
