  • James Leyland Kirby is set to release a mammoth 3xCD collection of his latest works next month. You may be familiar with Kirby's work under his mischievous chopped-up rave guise of V/Vm or perhaps his lush ambient meanderings as The Caretaker, but the Berlin-based English producer is set to drop the masks and release under his own name this October. Entitled Sadly, The Future Is No Longer What It Was, the project consists of three extended pieces split over the three CDs, with Kirby heralding it as, "the soundtrack to a world in decline, the heroism of modern life, a document of loss, an essay in gloom, delivered with a brutally honest appreciation of the pitiful truth." With a summary like that, expect Kirby to be focusing on much darker moods than his The Caretaker material, with plenty of submerged samples weaving in and out of the mix. The release has also been re-mastered at Berlin's now legendary Dubplates & Mastering, with the lavish packaging also featuring a series paintings by Ivan Seal. Vinyl fans will be happy to learn that the 3xCD release will precede separate limited edition double-vinyl versions of each of the three CDs. Tracklist CD1: When We Parted My Heart Wanted To Die CD2: Sadly, The Future Is No Longer What It Was CD3: Memories Live Longer Than Dreams History Always Favours The Winners will release Sadly, The Future Is No Longer What It Was on October 19th, 2009.
