  • Mutek have announced yet another addition to this year's program: a free outdoor concert featuring Uwe Schmidt as Senor Coconut. Since the early '90s, Schmidt has released music under a truly impressive number of pseudonyms, ranging from well-known projects like Atom Heart to obscure flings like Midisport or Weird Shit. As Senor Coconut, he and his orchestra play tongue-in-cheek covers of pop, rock and electronic songs in a variety of Latin styles, including rumba, marengue and cha-cha-cha. It's one of Schmidt's most celebrated projects, and also one of his most prolific, with dozens of bongo and brass-laden covers (including several albums) produced since 1996. The show this spring at Quartier des Spectacles will be Senor Coconut's second performance at Mutek, following an appearance in 2003, and will feature Cadenza artist Argenis Brito as part of the orchestra.
