  • Motor City Drum Ensemble will headline Wigflex's inaugural Manchester party on Saturday 10th July. For the past year, the Nottingham-based label has attempted to blur the boundaries between dubstep and 4/4 dance music, primarily showcasing artists from their local scene, but also finding room for productions from Shortstuff and Lithuania's Eleven Tigers. As their action-packed party at Nottingham's Stealth earlier this month attests, they're no shrinking violets when it comes to promoting their own parties, and they'll bring a similar mindset to Manchester's Sound Control next month, cramming three headliners onto the bill. Danilo Plessow has enjoyed plenty of airtime in house music circles recently, with his Raw Cuts series of funk and disco-infused tracks becoming somewhat ubiquitous amongst many a 4/4 jock. He'll be the sole straight-up house representative on the bill, which also sees Werk boss Actress get behind the decks to showcase his wonky fusion of everything from Detroit techno to off-kilter hip-hop. Hyperdub signings Darkstar complete the triple-header with their futuristic dubwise soul, while Wigflex co-founders Spamchop and Taylor will provide support.
