  • The CDJ-850, the latest in Pioneer's overhaul of their CDJ range, will hit stores in August. What began with the announcement of Pioneer's CDJ-2000 back in September of last year has now come full circle. The CDJ-800 is the last in Pioneer's CDJ range to come in for a makeover, thanks to the arrival of the CDJ-850. Pioneer's rekordbox technology—the new music management system which catalogues and displays a DJ's music intuitively through the CDJ's interface—has been at the heart of this new breed of players and will of course carry over to the CDJ-850. As with the other CDJs in the new range, the inclusion rekordbox also means that DJs can export their music and custom data on to a USB storage device and connect directly to the -850. Much like the CDJ-800 before it, Pioneer are aiming the -850 at the bedroom/semi-pro market in the hope that DJs will either upgrade to the industry standard later (the CDJ-2000s these days) or use the deck as a sort of pre-performance testing ground before hitting the club. Mark Grotefeld, Head Of Marketing, at Pioneer DJ Europe confirmed the approach: "The CDJ-850 is a great option for DJs wanting to familiarise themselves in home set-ups along with the infinite possibilities digital DJing developments are bringing to the artform."
