- American bedroom producers dominate the English electro-rocker's new compilation.
Milo Cordell of critically acclaimed electro-rock band The Big Pink has mixed !K7's new compilation, Tapes.
Though not a DJ in any official sense, Cordell says he's been making mixtapes for years and the role of the selector comes quite naturally to him. For his first commercial mix CD, he focuses on what is alternately known as drag, witch house and haunted house—a musical trend Cordell describes as "beautifully eerie."
Commenting specifically on oOoOO's "Mumbai," Cordell says, "It's that thing where music takes you somewhere else...Straight away you're in another world. I make music myself and I just love the way these bedroom producers have come up with these sounds." Most of the music featured on Tapes was done by bedroom producers like oOoOO, and Cordell estimates that 90% of the mix was never available in a physical format until now; releasing tracks for free online is the norm among artists like Salem. That said, American bedroom producers aren't the only thing featured on the new compilation: Joker and Actress each make an appearance, and Cordell included Gang Gang Dance's remix of The Big Pink's "Velvet."
