  • Flying Lotus is locked to headline a tour featuring a substantial cast of electronic hip-hop figureheads in Australia early next year. So far, 2010 has been a stellar year for the Los Angeles-based producer, real name Steven Ellison. According to many, his third LP Cosmogramma, released in April, saw the Flying Lotus sound once again set the benchmark for the future-beat movement. He's backed his production output with consistent international live showings, regularly playing headline slots across Europe and the UK. In addition to his own music and touring, he manages the growing Brainfeeder imprint, a label that is gradually becoming one of electronic hip-hop's most prominent outlets. Fittingly, Flying Lotus will be bringing several of his production contemporaries along for each of the legs. Like Flying Lotus, though, they're no strangers to Australian crowds, with each act having stopped in for sets in the country throughout the past 12 months. Fellow Warp Records affiliate Hudson Mohawke will bring his Glaswegian sound to The Forum, while Dam-Funk and The Gaslamp Killer supply their own doses of the Los Angeles vibe. The former will be bringing more of an 808-drenched funk sound, while The Gaslamp Killer will be spinning all kinds of things, from psychedelic rock to 180-BPM bass music. Non-Sydney residents won't be missing out on the Flying Lotus action. He'll also be stopping in for dates in Brisbane and Melbourne, along with a special New Year's Eve slot in Perth.
