  • Less than a decade after their debut, acclaimed indie and electronic collective LCD Soundsystem have scheduled their "last show ever," taking place on April 2nd at Madison Square Garden in New York. "we are retiring from the game. gettin' out. movin' on," reads the official statement on the band's website. "but for just one more night, we will be playing with friends and family for nearly 3 hours, playing stuff we've never played before and going out with a bang... if it's a funeral, let's have the best funeral ever!!!" The band have asked that everyone in attendance wear black, white or black and white. Openers for the event will be seminal '80s dance rock group Liquid Liquid, to whom LCD Soundsystem owe much of their sound. News of the group's approaching retirement first came to light last year, when Murphy claimed that This Is Happening would be their final album. In an interview with Pitchfork over the summer, the DFA co-founder explained how the move would improve things for him personally and creatively. "If I thought there was another record, I'd be very uncomfortable and anxious about it and what it was going to do to my life," he said. "Putting an end to it frees me up to have fun; it's like knowing your mortality." In the past Murphy has named side projects he's passed up because of the band, including production work for Spoon, Arcade Fire and Devo. In the same interview, however, he was careful not to frame the breakup as "some big, dramatic ending." "We've talked about if in five years we'd want to play again we'd do it."
