- "Frozen Balearic gay biker house" lives on with the new French label.
Next month, Black Strobe member Arnaud Rebotini will launch a new record label called Blackstrobe Records.
Formerly the duo of Rebotini and fellow French artist Ivan Smagghe, Black Strobe are best known for dark-edged club 12-inches like 2003's Italian Fireflies. Rebotini once described the group's sound to the BBC as "frozen Balearic gay biker house," or in other words, a blend of electro, house and industrial music, with influences like Depeche Mode as well as Nitzer Ebb (both of whom they've remixed). The group has gone through a number of changes over the years, evolving into a full band by 2007 (at which point Smagghe left the group). For the past few years, the lineup has included Rebotini, Bastien Burger and Benjamin Beaulieu.
Blackstrobe Records already has a handful of releases in the pipeline. It debuts next month with an EP from Rebotini called Personal Dictator, featuring remixes from The Hacker among others. Later this year, the label plans to release Rebotini's next solo album, a new Black Strobe EP, a Black Strobe greatest hits collection and a re-release of Italian Fireflies with new remixes.
