  • Disco fans are today mourning the loss of US singer Loleatta Holloway. Holloway's full-bodied vocals are indelibly linked to late-70s disco through her work for legendary imprint Salsoul Records, an association which produced the hits "Hit and Run," "Love Sensation" and "Runaway" with the Salsoul Orchestra. Holloway is one of the most heavily sampled artists in dance music, and was controversially uncredited by Euro dance outfit Black Box, who used elements of "Love Sensation" in their chart-topping hit "Ride On Time" in 1989. Four years later, Holloway successfully sued the group for the unlicensed use of her work. News of the vocalist's death broke early today via her manager, who cited ill health as the cause of death.
