  • Swedish developer Propellerhead have revealed details of the latest version of Reason. Traditionally one of the key differences that separated Reason from its equivalent platforms was an inability to record and edit external sound sources, which was formerly the preserve of Record. Reason 6 essentially combines the functionality of Reason and Record, with additional new effects and some aesthetic touch-ups also put in place. In bringing two of their flagships programmes together, Propellerhead has decided to ditch Record altogether, replacing it with Reason Essentials, a slimmed-down version of its big brother, Reason 6. The new effects include extreme compressor/distortion unit Pulveriser; an analog tape delay emulation in the form of The Echo; and Alligator, a three-band pattern gate designed for "complex rhythmic texturing." All existing Reason effects racks carry over to this latest version. A limited period of public beta testing has just begun, with the full version to be released later this year.
Propellerhead will release Reason 6 and Reason Essentials on September 30th, 2011 at a suggested retail price of €405 and €279 respectively.
