  • Virgo will hit Sub Club to mark the 19th birthday of Glasgow record shop Rubadub on August 5th. The house pair, AKA Virgo Four, Ace & The Sandman, M.E., and, by birth, Merwyn Sanders and Eric Lewis, debut in the country over twenty years on from their inception on the first Friday of next month. Virgo, who re-emerged last year with an official repress of their eponymous LP of 1989 and released Resurrection this March, are following in the footsteps of techno favourite Jeff Mills who played at Sub Club to honour Rubadub's birthday last year. Virgo will be joined on the night by the store's very own Martin McKay In an era when the record store has become something of an anachronism, Rubadub, which originally opened in Paisley before moving to Glasgow city centre, remains a key figure in the techno scene both at home and abroad. Its established connections in Detroit and Chicago enable them to play a key role in the distribution of vinyl from the USA to Europe by supplying the latest releases from the likes of Underground Resistance, FXHE and Axis to the European market. The store's own distribution company, once under the name of Blackhole, is an important source for Scottish labels like Firecracker, Numbers, LuckyMe and Soma, and exclusively distributes London's Night Slugs and Levon Vincent's Novel Sound of New York. Rubadub's staff and owners are all involved in the Scottish music scene through label ownership, promotion, DJing or production.
